Launch of the Škoda Superb, Seville

The launch of a new car is always a special event, particularly when a marque is battling to improve it's market perception. Enter Škoda, at one time a luxury car maker of some repute but more recently a byword for poor quality, east european rustbuckets. Now a part of the Volkswagen Audi Group, their recent products seem to have heralded the dawn of a new era for the brand.
The show followed the previous week's press launch at the Seville Casino and was staged in a large marquee next to the Hotel Alcora, which was also used as an exhibition and conference venue. The Lighting Designer was Gunther Hecker. I was the Vari-lite Technician, with a system of 35x VL5™, 7x VL6C™, 12x VL2201™ and 12x Martin MAC2000™. Conventional lighting was supplied by Showtec.

The new Škoda Superb seeks to recreate the luxury of it's 1938 namesake, which made a special guest appearance.

The fit up lasted a week, followed by ten days of shows and two days of loading out. The show featured a number of dance routines around all the cars from the range, along with the original Superb and the Rally Car.

Naturally the climax of the performance was the reveal of the new car, after which the audience of about four hundred was escorted to the exhibition area while the marquee was reset for dinner. The guests returned to eat and were further entertained with opera singing and a stunning display of dance by Andalucia's leading Flamenco school.

The event was produced by G&D Event Kommunikation and will be fondly remembered for it's absolutely fabulous end of show party. Thank you.
This is also the first page to feature pictures from my new digital camera.
