Savil Court (a.k.a The Anougraha)

A fetching, but notoriously difficult venue to work in. Many problems were solved immediately when the production company commissioned a custom-built thirty-eight foot circular truss to fit this unique location. The simple, majestic set design featured a rear cyclorama fronted by three 'sails' made from Trevira cloth. With it's translucent, satin texture, this proved to be a wonderful material to light.

Parcans on the FOH side of the circle laid three colour washes onto the stage. These colours were complimented with sidelight focussed behind the screens and again in groundrows uplighting the cyclorama. Further colour was added by eighteen Martin Robocolour 400s uplighting the sails from the front and the rear. This colour was generally copied by twelve MAC 500s, which added slowly shifting defocussed gobo effects to the overall look.

These effects, combined with the rippling of the Trevira in the local air currents, produced a slow, gentle, wave-like motion across the whole set, which proved to be very relaxing to look at. It's just a shame I can't reproduce it here.
